Ghanaians are not stranded in UK as portrayed in Ghana-UK Lecturer

A Ghanaian born United Kingdom (UK) based Digital Marketing Lecturer at the University Of West London Mr. Emmanuel Asiedu has debunked claims that most Ghanaians in the UK are stranded and are struggling to return to Ghana.

Mr. Asiedu noted that most Ghanaians in the UK who are willing to return to Ghana are those mostly on special missions or assignments who were not able to book a flight before the closure of boarders during the early stages of the covid-19 outbreak.

It was reported earlier that some Ghanaians are stranded in the UK and urgently need assistance of the government of Ghana as boarders of both Ghana and UK are closed. As the cry of the people was growing Ghana’s High Commission to the United Kingdom said it would on June 17, preside over the evacuation of stranded Ghanaians willing to fly back to Ghana. The stranded persons are to bear the cost of travel from the UK back home to Ghana.

According to government, the evacuees upon arrival in Ghana will undergo a 14-day mandatory quarantine. In a communiqué to the interested persons, the Commission said they would have to choose where they will be quarantined for either 14 or 21 days. Some of the named hotels include the Airport View Hotel, Alisa and Marriot Hotels. Government’s negotiated discount for the hotels is ¢500 for a stay at the Airport View Hotel and ¢600 for Alisa and Marriot Hotels.

But reacting to the issues on Delight Fm’s Morning Show “Me Man Nti” Hosted by Wofa Agyenim Boateng Mr. Emmanuel Asiedu said “So far as I am concerned no Ghanaian in the UK is stranded as portrayed back home by some people, they were here on a mission or assignment but unfortunately they couldn’t return before the lock down, what makes these people stranded?” he questioned.

The lecturer who is also the Chief Executive Officer for Pinnacle Amoafaba Education, an educational consult based in UK, took the opportunity to advice Ghanaians to come to the UK through proper means.
